This policy explains what information theextinctbook.com collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: I ask for your email address so I can send you Chapter 1 of THE EXTINCT: Reawakening and occasional news about the book. I do not sell your email address. I also advertise this book on Facebook and Instagram, which involves some tracking technology described below.
I do not ask for your name, home address, payment details or any other personal information on this site.
I will not send you anything unrelated to the book, and I will not sell, rent or trade your email address to anyone.
I may also use advertising data to measure how well my ads work, to show my ads to people likely to be interested in the book, and to show them to people who have visited this site. If I upload an email list to Meta to build an audience, the addresses are encrypted ("hashed") before they leave my system, and Meta uses them only to match accounts for advertising.
I use a third-party email service provider to store your address and send my emails, and a hosting provider to serve this website. They process your information only to provide those services for me. The site also loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
Because I advertise on Facebook and Instagram, Meta Platforms receives certain data from this site through the Meta Pixel, described next. Meta uses that data under its own privacy policy.
This site uses the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code from Meta Platforms (Facebook and Instagram). It uses cookies and similar technologies to record visits to this site and actions such as signing up for Chapter 1. I use this to measure my ads, to improve them, and to show my ads to people who visited the site or who resemble them. Meta may also use the data for its own purposes, as described in its privacy policy. Where I use it, Meta and I are both responsible for the data collected.
Outside of this advertising, this site does not use other analytics or tracking tools at this time. If that changes, I will update this page.
How to control it:
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws, such as the right to know what I hold about you or to have it deleted. For example, California residents may ask me to stop "sharing" their personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, which includes the use of advertising pixels. Contact me and I will honor those requests as the law requires.
I keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Advertising cookies expire on their own, usually within a few months, and Meta keeps its own data under its own policies.
This site is intended for older teens and adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given me their email address, contact me and I will delete it.
If I change this policy, I will post the new version on this page and update the date above.
